Purpose:  Support initiatives to enhance the advocacy capacity of grassroots NAMI leaders. Develop a searchable online repository of informational resources to build the advocacy capacity of grass tops NAMI leaders. Assist with implementation of an environmental scan of state mental health legislation and production of written resources.

Effort:  20 - 30 hours per week  

Reports to: Director of Field Advocacy

Core Responsibilities:

Develop a searchable online repository of written resources to inform NAMI's state advocacy efforts

  • Collect written resources from NAMI Policy Team staff and grass tops NAMI leaders.
  • Organize by topic on NAMI online platform

Conduct an environmental scan of state mental health legislation

  • Collect information from NAMI state organizations on priority legislation for 2017
    • Review state NAMI organization websites
    • Email state NAMI leaders to request a legislative summary
  • Prepare spreadsheet cataloguing legislation
    • Organized by state
    • Organized by topic
  • Assist with development of briefs on legislative priorities
  • Assist with establishing ongoing partnerships with national partners to develop a clearinghouse for state mental health legislation. 
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Social media communication skills
  • Interest in advocacy and mental health policy issues
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Self-motivated
