What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Today, we are an alliance of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and a national office who work in communities across the United States to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI advocates for all who are affected by mental illness, both the individuals and the people in their lives. In particular, we work to address disparities and injustices and to promote dignity and inclusion for all people with mental illness and their families. In addition to being advocates, we educate, we listen, and we lead as evidenced by our public awareness campaigns, the range of numerous programs we provide, and our strong public policy.

We currently have an opening for a Data Manager. The Data Manager serves as a primary steward and manager of NAMI's programmatic impact data for the purpose of strategic business decision making and using data analytics to identify problems, weaknesses, trends, and opportunities for the organization.

Location: Arlington, VA (temporarily remote due to COVID)


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Data Manager is responsible for:

  • Collaborating with organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvements, make strategic adjustments, and exploit opportunities focused on maximizing programmatic impact
  • Interpreting data, analyzing results, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets to evaluate member and beneficiary outcomes and impacts linked to organizational products and services
  • Preparing reports for executive leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data that help diagnostic and predictive analytics efforts and define new process improvement opportunities
  • Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and maintaining databases
  • Providing ongoing reports on performance indicators to anticipate, locate, and correct problems during project lifecycles
  • Working alongside cross-functional teams and senior management to prioritize business and information needs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, with a minimum of 3-5 years' experience in data management or analysis
  • Proven working experience as a data expert or expertise in data models, database management, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Strong knowledge of reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL etc), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks)
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
  • Ability to decipher and organize large amounts of data.
  • An analytical mindset with excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to translate complex problems clearly and in nontechnical terms
  • Must pass background check
