What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Today, we are an alliance of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and a national office who work in communities across the United States to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI advocates for all who are affected by mental illness, both the individuals and the people in their lives. In particular, we work to address disparities and injustices and to promote dignity and inclusion for all people with mental illness and their families. In addition to being advocates, we educate, we listen, and we lead as evidenced by our public awareness campaigns, the range of numerous programs we provide, and our strong public policy.

We currently have an opening for a Senior Coordinator, Spanish Education Programs. This position supports the Manager of Spanish Education Programs in the translation, cultural adaptation and dissemination of Spanish program content and supports field leaders to strengthen and expand NAMI National Education Programs (NEP) in Spanish-speaking communities.

This position is based in Arlington, VA (currently remote due to COVID).

Salary Range: $45k - $50k

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Duty allocation: 80% to Spanish program support and editing, 20% to department support
  • Support the process to identify, contract and manage vendors related to translation services
  • Confirm and edit Spanish-language translations from vendors per NAMI standards
  • Translate and edit RSE documents per NAMI standards
  • Support NAMI's efforts to increase Latinx and Hispanic outreach and engagement in programs, acting as a departmental consultant on cultural competence
  • Support the Manager of Spanish Programs in the development of culturally competent content and resources to increase NAMI's outreach to Spanish-speaking communities
  • Support technical assistance webinars to provide assistance and updates on Spanish programming
  • Provide technical support to, and draft electronic communications for, NAMI state and affiliate leaders on Spanish programs, ensuring alignment with other NAMI teams as needed
  • Coordinate with the Meetings and Events team to provide support for a national training events, meetings, webinars, convention and special projects
  • Act as the customer service face for Spanish programs in-person, via email and answering calls; make triage decisions for follow up
  • Interview, on-board and supervise the work and schedules of interns as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 1-2 years' relevant experience
  • Spanish fluency
  • Strong written, editing and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish
  • Experience translating content from English to Spanish
  • Experience editing content in Spanish
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Latinx community
  • Customer service experience preferred
  • Interest or experience in behavioral health preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Adobe products, specifically Adobe Acrobat Pro highly valued
  • Must pass background check
