This position will work to increase the visibility of NAMI Greater Cleveland (NAMIGC) as an organization, with an emphasis on its justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) initiative, programming, and advocacy activity. Specifically, the communications coordinator will engage the organization's networks by producing timely and strategic content for the organization's multiple social media and multimedia platforms. The communications coordinator will collaborate with the program team to develop messaging campaigns to advance the mission of NAMI Greater Cleveland in a truly intersectional and inclusive way. The communications coordinator will also build relationships with traditional/earned media and place stories, with an emphasis on increasing the profile of persons living with mental illness and their loved ones at the forefront of local and statewide policy issues. The communications coordinator will also assist with full range of grant proposal activities, as needed. This is a full-time position.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and produce written and visual/multimedia content for email listserv, website, and social media networks to raise the visibility of NAMIGC. Write and design regular content for website and email list. Develop and post regular content for multiple social media platforms.
  • Plan and manage projects that use visuals, video, and/or multimedia storytelling to support NAMIGC's work.
  • Build relationships with media outlets and key communications partners that will lead to mainstream media coverage of NAMIGC's events and activities.
  • Respond to media requests with a sense of urgency and in a timely manner.
  • Work with NAMIGC staff to generate and release media advisories, press releases and statements and proactively pitch outlets around key issues and program activities.
  • Develop and incorporate new communications tools and creative dissemination strategies to strengthen NAMIGC's programming.
  • Develop talking points for pertinent current events and programming for use by staff and allies.
  • Assists with full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources, as needed.
  • Assist with NAMIGC's website, including collaborating on new content to reach targeted and diverse populations, to include underserved communities, special populations, faith/spiritual communities, etc., as needed.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects and/or duties as needed or directed by the Executive Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field and two years of related experience in a field relevant to communications, public relations, marketing, journalism; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Deep commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating and promoting National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)'s vision, mission and values, particularly as they relate to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, throughout a complex and dynamic communications environment.
  • Proven skill working in a collective environment, including interpersonal skills to interact sensitively, collaboratively and respectfully with the people NAMI serves, colleagues, volunteers, interns, community partners, professional contacts and others.
  • Experience using various social media platforms and solid knowledge of cutting-edge social media engagement strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit clear, engaging, and grammatically correct content.
  • Demonstrated oral communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to synthesize and convey information to others in a clear, concise way.
  • Graphic design and video/multimedia production skills
  • Working knowledge of website management tools, knowledge of web analytics, and familiarity with web standards.
  • Experience with training and coordinating volunteers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. Requires ability to occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Travel by automobile to local facilities required regularly and is required occasionally to attend off-site training sessions and/or meetings.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Majority of work performed in a general office environment. Requires availability for additional hours including evenings and weekends as needed. Requires regular participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.
