The Executive Director, working within the policies set by the Board of Directors, will work with the Board to ensure that the organization's financial security, management of staff, volunteers, and programming are implemented outstandingly to achieve the organization's strategic goals and objectives. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships as appropriate with diverse community partners, including Lake County ADAMHS (Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services), NAMI National and Ohio, medical and provider community, courts, police departments, corrections facilities, school groups, local and state governments, corporate and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Make referrals to all NAMI educational programming and encourage participation in NAMI-related functions.
  • Facilitate the achievement of NAMI Lake County, OH's mission, strategic plan, annual goals, and objectives as developed in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Work with the Treasurer and Board to oversee the organization's budget, with the capacity to allocate resources strategically and manage spending against the budget.
  • Work to expand philanthropic support by identifying and cultivating individuals, foundations, and other sources of grants and revenues to achieve the mission of NAMI Lake County, OH.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to all employees and volunteers.
  • Ensure the organizational operations and programs of support, education, and advocacy are provided in adherence with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Certification and NAMI Standards of Excellence.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization in public settings, consistent with the mission, policies, and activities of the organization.
  • Assist in the creation of social media campaigns that help to promote the organization's mission.
  • Attend/serve on NAMI supported/related meetings in the mental health community.
  • Assist all board members in meetings, day-to-day requests, reports, strategic planning, budget, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee all Signature Programs and education meetings.
  • Develop and implement an annual Calendar of Events.
  • Execute and oversee fundraising efforts.
  • Competency in grant research, writing and implementation.
  • Assess and address Community needs.
  • Keep abreast of all local, state, and national legislation/advocacy issues pertinent to persons with mental illness.
  • Participate in an annual performance review by NAMI Lake County, OH Board of Directors to evaluate quantity and quality of work.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 5 years of mental health care experience.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with management, supervision, and oversight of budgets.
  • 1-2 years of experience in non-profit agency administration and management.
  • Excellent planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.
  • Grant writing competency.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with using social media.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Ability to create a future vision and execute it.

Preferences

  • Fundraising experience.
  • Experience in maintaining good Board relations.
  • Knowledge of change management.
  • Lived experience with mental health.
  • Experience with individuals affected by mental health conditions and navigating supportive systems.
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to relate and work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.

Position Specifics

  • Full-time, exempt, salaried position averaging 40 hours/week
